What
has happened to comedic genius of such famed movies as Billy
Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, Waterboy, and Big
Daddy. In Mr. Deeds Adam Sandler plays the heir (Longfellow
Deeds) to a fortune from a long lost relative. He soon finds out
that the people he encounters are more concerned about his money
than he is. Along comes Winona Ryder's character Babe Bennett is
a down on her luck Reporter who unwittingly sets up Deeds so her
Boss can capitalize on Deeds fortune, by making him seem like a
buffoon. Bennett then has a change of heart, after it is to late
for redemption. All of this makes Deeds want to go back to his
small hometown. Leaving his fortune behind (Actually donates it
to a charity), only to reappear after hearing about the plans
for the company. The man left in charge Chuck Cedar played by
Peter Gallagher, has plans to sell off the company piece by
piece, only to be outwitted by Bennett and her investigative
reporters ability. See this movie if you must, but if I had the
chance to do it all over again, I would watch any of Sandler's
other movies on DVD or video.
